Strata 1 - Teknik Unand

Faculty of Engineering, since its inception in 1985, has contributed substantially to the rapid industrial and economic growth of the region. The faculty has five departments:

• Mechanical Engineering
• Civil Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Industrial Engineering
• Environmental Engineering

A good relationship with its alumni has engaged Faculty of Engineering in career providing through a Career Development Centre. The web portal was developed by KATUA (Keluarga Alumni Fakultas Teknik Universitas Andalas) - the alumni body of the faculty. The web portal provides links to several companies and categorized into several subjects.

The curriculum puts emphasis on both theory and practice, using nearby industrial companies as sites for practice. The emphasis is also on researches in information technology and related fields in order to achieve academic excellence in undergraduate program, and to serve as a basis for future development of graduate program.

The faculty is provided with the following facilities:

Department of Mechanical Engineering: Construction Laboratory, Structural Dynamics Laboratory, Energy Conversion Laboratory, Core Laboratory for Production Technology, Solar Technology Laboratory, Material Process Laboratory, Workshop, Metallurgy Laboratory and Mechatronics Laboratory.

Department of Civil Engineering: Hydraulic Laboratory, Soil Mechanics Laboratory, Surveying Laboratory, Engineering Drawing Studio, and Computer Laboratory.

Department of Electrical Engineering: Control Digital Laboratory, Computer Laboratory, Electrical Machinery Laboratory, High Voltage Laboratory, Electrical Distribution and Power System Laboratory, Electrical Measurement Laboratory, Electronics Laboratory, Telecommunications Laboratory, Power Electronics Laboratory and Workshop.

Department of Industrial Engineering: Decision and Information System Laboratory, Production System Laboratory, Ergonomics and Working System Planning Laboratory and Fabric Facility Layout Studio.

Department of Environmental Engineering: Water Laboratory, Air Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory and Solid Waste Laboratory.

The faculty has 126 teaching staff members (18 Doctors, 91 Masters), 1708 students and 1448 alumni.

In the efforts to continuously improve the quality of engineering education and research, some joint-cooperation (Memorandum of Understanding) has been signed between Faculty of Engineering and other institutions (private universities and industries) with nearby institutions and those abroad. Among others, the following are the institutions: Padang Cement Factory, State Electricity Company, Telecommunication Company, Toyohashi University of Technology Japan, Industrial Engineering Academy / STTIND, Universitas Putra Indonesia, Akademi Teknik Pekanbaru, and so on.
